We are about to pick up a camel camper beachcomber with lots of goodies. Anyone else out there had any experience with camel?

Was just searching to have a look, is it the Beachcomber Plus or Elite?

It was a beachcomber plus but essentially after us adding bits and pieces it an Elite equivalent with full 12/240 V power system, extra water tank, kids Room and extra battery

It's a 2015 so not too bad to be honest.

Hey Neil, how do you find the wheel track? Being wider than the Fj.

I don't notice anything different to be honest mate, with it fully loaded I still have to remember that I have something in Tow.  In fact I am looking at upgrading to the newest X1 but I will have to sell my first.

Awesome thank you, I wouldn't use it enough to warrant paying that much but looking at building something similar.

spent more time mucking around with the camper ...... the 1st box I fitted to the draw bar was way too thin & was eventually going to rip the alloy at the mounts ... so I flogged it to my bro inlaw & picked up a stronger, slightly smaller version from E-bay that has side doors as well .....  also bought a flat rack from that mob that flog stuff on FB..... made up some alloy brackets to mount to the cross bars on the camper ... the rack will in turn be bolted down onto the runners which will give me the ability to carry a full size table plus any other crap ( firewood ) i might want to cart around ..........

You wont regret it, Stepho...life as a teardropper is really something very cool.  And they're so light they will just follow like a mangy dog...I quite often forget its there.

I went to a 4WD comp last weekend up at SORRA on the Putty Road at Colo Heights.  Camped with my 4WD Club and one of the other girls also has a FJC and a teardrop - but her's isnt an offroad version and has 9/10ths of bugga all clearance or room under the (fibreglass) wheel arches.  She wasnt listening when she reversed, jacknifed it and cracked and broken/split her fibreglass tool box on her very short drawbar.  Plus her silver wingtip on the FJC - but that was easily fixed with some boiling water.  The fibreglass repairs are going to be something else again.  She kept looking at my offroad and sighing.

Between the two of us - we camp together with a gazebo between us for socialising - we had a LOT of visitors checking out the tears.

Mine is going to be sold later this year - Im working on another prototype top with the same base chassis/suspension setup.  Will get my trip to the Red Centre in August done first.

Slept in ours last night in the backyard.  Taking it to Rollingstone Caravan Park tomorrow for the night, looking forward to that. I'll keep this for a couple of years then buy a new off road version. Let me know when you have your design, we might get 2 built the same
