Thoughts on the AFE air filter Miles?
Cheers
Dan
Sorry late reply....I don't use the FJ every day.
A bit hard for me to give an accurate reply, but what I can now say is that my fuel consumption was about 14.7l/100 to 15.2l/100 using the car to go to work. Now I have 15.4l/100 not better you can say but this result is with my roof rack fitted and the roof top tent on the top at all time, same work travel.
Based on that, I think that it is a good win.

Yep.  Live on the corner of Peninsula Developmental Road and Mulligan Highway in Lakeland.  Nice quiet little town at the moment and not as much rain as I thought there would be.

a small improvement is a good improvement.  I was going to go K&N but happy to avoid the added oiling/cleaning tasks.

Pretty good mileage anyway, I average 12-13L/100
Thanks for the feedback, helpful to hear user views  :happydude:

Installed a larger battery tray passenger side, with heat shield and swapped start and 2nd battery locations. Join in polycarbonate box.

Quick arvo recon into Wombat/Lerderderg.

Ratcliffe trk, Ambler Lane trk and a section of XL trk.

Good arvo, finding some fun for the club trip on 17th Feb.

I found a really nice 40 Litre poly on-rear-floor water tank.
It has a raised section to clear the tranny tunnel.
So damned close to a perfect fit, however I had to make a couple of mods to the back of the floor console to enable easy install/removal.
All of 30 mins work.
I also got a 12VDC pump with built in flow sensor, 1/2" BSP brass fittings and a decent length of 12mm poly hose with a tap.
$320 the lot.
I essence, I have shower pressure water (which I can also run through my Coleman HWOD unit) when the tap is turned on and it's all nice and safe at low CoG.
Fabricating a couple of permanent 6mm aluminium mounting "L brackets" all on 316 8mm Stainless hardware as I write this.
I still get to slide the front seats forward to easily reach recovery gear/tools etc. stowed underneath.

Do the maths, I got the lot for $320 - Thanks Uneek.
I'll take a few more photos of the console mod and post them up later.
The trick is to leave as much console behind as possible so mine took a while through trial and (not much) error.
In essence, I hand machined most the rear lower corners away but left the rest intact to keep it's strength using simple hole saws, a hacksaw blade and sharp files to tidy up.

As promised:
You don't have to totally bastardise the floor console, although I probably removed more material than needed.
However the tank easily slips into place and doesn't "squeak" when driving. I fabricated some mounting brackets out of 250mm X 50mm X 3mm extruded aluminium angle cut to 100mm wide pieces. ($32 for a minimum 800mm length).
Fabricated dimensions were 180H X 100W with a 50mm footprint.
I drilled 8.5mm holes as necessary in both brackets and floor pan.
The tank's threaded inserts are 50mm apart (centre to centre).
I drilled my brackets at 165mm high from base to meet the tank threads.
Neat tight fit to the floor. No gap, no "wobble".
Note: The tank threads are ALSO a convenient metric 8mm!
There IS a God!

All my hardware is 8mm 316 S/S Cap screws, serrated nuts, washers and spring washers so NOTHING can rattle loose.
I used 50mm long Cap Screws to mount through the floor pan with same fixings and sealed the drilled holes with ParFix Urethane sealant.
I used 15mm Cap Screws to mount the tank to my brackets, again with spring washers and flat washers.

NOTE: ALL my hardware for EVERYTHING is consistent throughout my build - from Roof rack to Awning yada - therefore I only carry ONE Allen key for maintenance purposes  :good:

Removing the tank is a simple matter of unbolting the two Cap Screws at either end and the whole she-bang slides up and out easily.

Hint: Be careful when drilling through the floor pan because the carpet underlay/deadening will quickly wrap around your drill bit so go slowly.
"Reverse" is a good thing on a cordless drill. Use it!

I torqued up to 35Ft/Lb to ensure the floor pan "married up" with my hardware for a waterproof seal.

Was always going to get a bar sorted as my first mod for the FJ. Spend a lot of time driving around dawn and dusk on my way to/from fishing spots and it’s only a matter of time before I bump into a bit of wildlife.

Surpising then that it's taken over 2 years to get the job done. More suprising that there have been a heap of other mods that jumped the queue and got in before the bar.

But today a TJM T13 bar and 9500 Torque winch were installed. I think of it like insurance. If you need it you want to know you made the right choice.......but then deep down you jope you never need it.

Another bit of recon for Vic club trip to Wombat/Lerderderg on the 17th. Great having this place so close to Melbourne.

I was supposed to take someone in the Brindabella for a drive and he cancelled....so with the free time I have done my very first service on the FJ (50000kms), "he" used to go to Toyota while under warranty but for several reason I will now do it myself....and if I stuff up at least I can slap someone freely...:)
The forum was helpful to find a few advice here and here....nothing hard but it helped....

If a job is worth doing, do it yourself Claude.
If it turns to crap, we got your back.
That's the beauty of this informal forum.

Had my first stint as trip leader yesterday with a great bunch of Vic members. Headed through Lerderderg and Wombat. After a quick side track so that tommej could jump start a stranded vehicle we had a fairly easy albeit it dusty drive. Hit Diggers tk, XL Link tk and XL tk before lunch which saw a little mud under the tyres.

Lunchbeak at O'briens Crossing then the afternoon was spent on Amblers Tk, Lloyd tk, Ratcliffes tk and finally Firebreak no. 1 tk.

Have to say it was a great day and I really enjoyed finally getting out for a drive with other club members. And while I had never lead a drive before the fellas helped me along nicely.

It certainly gave me a taste and if getting out on more club drives means organising and leading them myself then I'm happy to do it when I can.

Thanks a bunch to tommej, Bronco, MattMc and drwormy........not only for coming along but making the leading part a breeze.
